One of the most basic aspects in laboratory is communication. The way researchers communicate could affect the outcomes of their research. This article will investigate how problems related to communication can hinder the accomplishment of laboratory objectives. Also, we will present what behaviours, actions or measures during communication influence a laboratory practice development. For this research, the laboratories of Yachay University for Experimental Technology and Research were visited to witness different laboratory practices in the fields of biology and chemistry. Communication interactions between professor-student and student-student were recorded and analyzed. We discovered four communication problems that interfere with the normal development of the practices: (1) disrupted communication process, (2) lack of communication, (3) assumptions, and (4) non-verbal communication. Ways of increasing the possibility of success by controlling these problems, as well as factors that affect laboratory research are discussed.

A Comunicação Intercultural é um fenômeno complexo no qual estão imbricados fatores de distinta natureza; por isso, seu estudo demanda abordagens interdisciplinares, incluindo a Sociolinguística, a Psicologia Social e os Estudos Sociais das Emoções. Trata-se de um fenômeno que não é facilmente percebido, uma vez que fazer com que os falantes sejam conscientes dos diferentes usos comunicativos pode levar a que seja produzido justamente o efeito que se pretende combater e sejam feitas simplificações e generalizações, gerando preconceitos linguísticos e discriminações. Segundo as teorias da virada pós-colonial, um número incontável de emoções emerge nos novos falantes, tanto a partir de suas atitudes quanto no momento em que expressam suas competências linguísticas (PENNYCOOK, 2010). Tais emoções se imbricam nos processos de subjetivização e se estabelecem em cada relação com o que a vida cotidiana apresenta aos novos falantes e aos não novos. Ter uma atitude agressiva ou estar chateado, por exemplo, são emoções que se manifestam constantemente na comunicação intercultural. No presente trabalho, são analisadas as subjetividades que os novos falantes expressam e de que maneira suas emoções influem na qualidade de construções sociais, ou seja, estabelecemos uma correlação entre emoções e atitudes linguísticas dos novos falantes.
